This article discusses pre-1917 historiography about pedagogical courses in
Ukrainian lands during 19th and early 20th Cent. The author discusses informative
potential of normative and legislative documents by the Ministry of Public
Edu cation and Local Academic Councils regarding establishment of courses, content
and specifics of teacher training; general and specialized collections of documents;
general research on social preconditions of past education and its structural
components; reference publications; records from various courses; reports by educational managers; proceedings of teaching commissions; lecture notes;
student reviews, articles in academic journals. Despite a positive evaluation of
previous studies on this topic, many questions demand more scrutinized archival
research. Until today no complex research was devoted to this topic.
