The article is dedicated to the reforms in secondary education of Ukraine during
the period from establishment of the independent country in early 1990s till
the beginning of the 21st Cent. The legislative and normative base, as well as practice
of implementing its key points, were analyzed. The author concludes that this
period is characterized by an intensive reform and adjustment to global standards.
A particular attention is paid to problems of high schools in the countryside. Conclusions
focus mainly on the results of the high school development and prospects
for subsequent modernization of this sphere.
