The article investigates the basic principles of social interactions caused for
Kyiv Dormition Caves lavra brethren by changing of the Dormition icon icing
set. The Dormition icon was the main sacred object among numerous miraculous
icons and holy relics in the lavra. In late 18th ct. — 1922 all parts of the Dormition
icing set attracted an attention of high conventual authority. Only some
of brethren planed radical refinements of these parts, the other monks and novices
were ordinary benefactors. The new elements of the icing set were made when
the Spiritual Council had recognized the previous items conditions as far from
satisfactory. The impelling need for depth cueing near the worshipped icon caused
sourcing and recruiting highly qualified, trustworthy and pious artisans in Kyiv
and other localities. The social and aesthetic criterions were important during
the votives selection for a long presence near the Dormition icon. The perception
of the icing frame, disk, icon place and long-present votives evolved and became
a conclusion about their high historical and commemorative value. The research
of the stories, narrate in Dormition cathedral about its sacred objects is
very promising.
